Amidst the booming development of the new energy market in Central and Eastern Europe, a brilliant pearl is shining brightly on the banks of the Danube River. Austrian renewable energy developer Enery recently announced that it will officially launch Romania's largest integrated solar energy storage project to date in early 2025. This super power station located in Orgrezeni, Jiu'erjiu County has a photovoltaic installed capacity of 534 MWac (750 MWp) and is equipped with a massive energy storage system of 534 MW/1068 MWh. It is expected to be put into commercial operation in the fourth quarter of 2027. This project, hailed as the 'Crown Pearl', will not only break regional records, but also profoundly change the energy landscape of Central and Eastern Europe.

Flagship project sets multiple records, pioneering construction mode

The Ogrezeni project, with its outstanding technical indicators, is undoubtedly a milestone in the development of new energy in Romania. The project has obtained the technical license for grid access and will build a new 400kV substation to connect to the national transmission network. The most notable feature is its 1068MWh energy storage capacity.

which is currently a leader in Central and Eastern Europe. What is more noteworthy is that Enery has decided to adopt a one-time overall construction model instead of phased promotion, which is the first time in the history of new energy project construction in Romania. This will be our most iconic project, and from a national perspective, it will also be the largest project of its kind in the region, "said Liviu Gavrila, the head of the company's business in Romania

The strategic layout continues to deepen, and the energy storage business is fully developed

As an energy company deeply rooted in the Romanian market for many years, Enery is implementing a systematic development strategy. At present, the company has 167MW of power generation assets in operation in Romania, including the 51MW Sarmasag photovoltaic power station built last year and the recently completed 54MW Titu photovoltaic power station. Gavrila revealed that the Titu power station will begin debugging and testing in the near future. In addition to its power generation business, Enery is making energy storage its core strategic direction, planning to provide battery energy storage systems for all power generation projects, while actively developing independent energy storage projects. Gavrila observed that there is a phenomenon of "project overcapacity" in the current market, with a backlog of about 40GW of energy storage projects that have only submitted grid connection applications, far exceeding actual demand.

The policy environment is highly concerned, and digital transformation is accelerating

At the policy level, Enery explicitly supports the proposal put forward by the Romanian Renewable Energy Association, advocating for a three-year delay in the implementation of the new auction policy for grid connected capacity of projects over 5MW. Gavrila said that the industry needs sufficient cognitive cycles, predictability, and smooth transitions, and cannot suddenly change fundamental rules. In terms of business innovation, Enery is actively promoting digital transformation. The company has reached a strategic partnership with SmartPulse, exclusively using its trading platform in Romania, Bulgaria, Estonia, and Austria. Through customized trading robots and algorithms, it aims to enhance its competitiveness in the Romanian electricity market both domestically and internationally. This innovative measure sets a new benchmark for the intelligent operation and management of future new energy projects. The launch of this mega project not only demonstrates Enery's ambition in the Central and Eastern European markets, but also heralds a new wave of development in Romania and even the entire European new energy industry. As the project construction progresses, Orgrezeni, once an ordinary town, is destined to become an important coordinate on the European energy transition map. Editor/Yang Beihua
