[Shenhua Baotou Coal to Olefins Upgrade Project Enters Equipment Installation Stage] In the vast city of Baotou, Inner Mongolia, a landmark project leading the upgrading and development of modern coal chemical industry is emerging. On December 14, 2025, with the successful hoisting and installation of the first synthesis reactor, the Shenhua Baotou coal to olefin upgrade demonstration project with a total investment of 17.15 billion yuan officially entered the installation peak period from the civil engineering stage, laying a solid foundation for the promotion of 2025 and subsequent projects. This project is an upgrade project of the world's first coal to olefin demonstration plant, with a construction scale of producing 2 million tons of methanol and 750000 tons of polyolefin annually. Its core highlight lies in the deep promotion of low-carbon transformation, exploring the integrated development path of coal chemical industry with green electricity, green hydrogen, and green oxygen through coupling with new energy, reflecting the upgrading direction of high-end and diversified industries. The project also shoulders the mission of significant technological self-reliance. It adopts a single furnace daily coal feeding 2000 ton level pulverized coal gasification technology with completely independent intellectual property rights, and for the first time tested a new process for co firing coal chemical wastewater. These innovations are not only exemplary of collaborative innovation in China's modern coal chemical industry chain, but also open up new technological routes for the green and low-carbon development of the entire industry, which has pioneering significance.
