In the macro context of building a new power system and promoting green energy transformation, energy storage, as a key flexible regulation resource, is entering an important stage of large-scale and industrialized development. Recently, Inner Mongolia and Heilongjiang have made breakthrough progress in the field of independent energy storage, which not only demonstrates the achievements of technological innovation, but also indicates the increasing strategic position of the energy storage industry in the power grid system.

On December 12, 2025, the 400MW/1.6GWh independent energy storage project in Dengkou County, invested and constructed by Inner Mongolia Energy Group, was successfully connected to the grid and put into operation, and completed the first batch of charging and discharging of energy storage units. The project adopts a mixed technology route of "all vanadium liquid flow+lithium iron phosphate", cleverly combining the dual advantages of long-term energy storage and rapid response. Of particular note is that the all vanadium flow battery system, as a technology demonstration project of the autonomous region, has achieved significant breakthroughs in key technical indicators. Its rated current density of a single cell reaches 500mA/cm ² @ 80%, and the system energy efficiency is higher than 72%, providing important guidance for the rational design of flow batteries.

The construction speed of this project can be regarded as a benchmark in the industry, taking only 139 days from completing all procedures to being connected to the grid, and only 80 days from formal commencement to grid charging and discharging. After the project was put into operation, the total capacity of Dengkou Energy Storage Power Station jumped to 1.005 million kilowatts/3.01 million kilowatt hours, becoming the largest energy storage power station currently built and put into operation in the world. For the new energy company that has already built a 4.45 million kilowatt photovoltaic project in Dengkou County, this energy storage power station will greatly enhance the regional new energy consumption capacity and grid stability, expand the space for sand prevention and control and wind solar integration projects, and provide key support and fresh samples for Inner Mongolia to build a "new type of integrated power system of source, grid, load and storage".

Heilongjiang: Single day centralized filing of 4GWh projects, large-scale layout entering the fast lane

Following closely behind, the large-scale deployment of energy storage in Heilongjiang Province has also taken a solid step forward. On December 10, 2025, the Energy Bureau of Heilongjiang Province publicly announced and filed five independent energy storage projects, with a total investment of over 3.5 billion yuan and a total scale of 1GW/4GWh. This batch of projects all adopt a standardized configuration of 200MW/800MWh (4-hour duration), accurately covering the two core power load areas of Harbin and Suihua, especially forming a cluster layout of three projects in Anda City, Suihua.

This batch filing is not accidental, but based on the practical needs and forward-looking planning of energy development. Although the current utilization rate of new energy in Heilongjiang Province is at a high level of 98%, the pressure of power grid peak regulation is becoming increasingly prominent in the face of the expected integration of future new energy bases with a capacity of tens of millions of kilowatts. Promoting the large-scale and systematic development of energy storage has become a clear path to building a new type of power system. The implementation of these projects marks the shift of energy storage from sporadic demonstrations to strategic configuration of key nodes in the power grid. Its core role is to act as the "stabilizer" and "regulator" of the power grid. From an industry perspective, a clear business model (such as capacity leasing and ancillary services) will drive the industry into a healthy development track, driving investment in the entire industry chain in the short term, and significantly enhancing the power grid regulation capability in the medium and long term, helping to optimize the energy structure.
