On an open field in England, the groundbreaking ceremony of the Mendy Phase II battery energy storage project was quietly held, marking a new journey for Chinese energy storage technology in the high-end European market.
On December 22, 2022, the CHINA HUANENG UK Mendy Phase II Battery Energy Storage Project officially started construction
As a benchmark project for the international development of CHINA HUANENG, the second phase of the Mendi project has an installed capacity of 49.9 megawatts and an energy storage capacity of 149.7 megawatt hours, which is another important achievement after the successful commissioning of the first phase of the Mendi project. The Mendi Phase II project adopts a nationwide battery energy storage system, which effectively extends the energy storage time through a deep iterative technology route. The project aims to be connected to the grid by the end of 2026, which is of great significance for improving the regulation capacity of the power system and promoting the energy transformation of the UK.

The first phase of the CHINA HUANENG Mendi project has an installed capacity of 99.8 MW and was put into commercial operation in June 2021. The main equipment is manufactured and integrated by Chinese enterprises, with a localization rate of over 70%. It is the first large-scale battery energy storage project constructed by Chinese power companies in developed countries.
With the acceleration of global energy transition, large-scale energy storage has become a key link in the upgrading of power systems in various countries. CHINA HUANENG has demonstrated the technological strength and market development capabilities of Chinese enterprises in the field of energy storage through the Mendi project, providing a new example for global clean energy cooperation.Editor/Cheng Liting
