In the context of the the Belt and Road Initiative to promote cultural integration, the meeting between Guangdong youth Li Gehong and Xinjiang Muqam has become a cultural story across mountains and seas. In 2019, he was deeply impressed by this "living fossil" art originating from the Silk Road and resolutely devoted himself to inheritance. In order to bridge the gap between language and culture, he self-taught Uyghur language, traveled thousands of miles deep into Kashgar and Turpan to collect local culture, and studied under the folk artist Awuti Yusupu.

What is commendable is that he integrated Western piano skills with traditional Muqam art innovation, focusing on singing and hand drums under the guidance of his master. After years of refinement, he eventually became an excellent Muqam singer. In 2023, his video of singing "Nawamukam" went viral on the internet, allowing more people to appreciate the unique charm of Silk Road culture. Li Gehong is not only a culture learner, but also a communicator of the new era. He builds a cultural bridge with youth and love, tells the world Chinese stories, and makes the ancient Muqam glow with new era glory on the Belt and Road.Editor/Cheng Liting
