China Petroleum International Exploration and Development Co., Ltd. held talks with Kazakhstan National Oil and Gas Company, focusing on the implementation progress of joint strategic projects such as the expansion and renovation of the Shymkent Refinery and the Aktobe natural gas chemical complex.

The expansion and renovation project of Chimkent Refinery plans to increase its annual production capacity from 6 million tons to 12 million tons, and the feasibility study is currently being prepared. The Aktobe natural gas chemical complex project is designed to produce 880000 tons of urea and 80000 tons of methanol annually, with an estimated total investment of 1.25 billion US dollars. Both parties are establishing a joint venture to fulfill the final procedures and will soon begin front-end engineering design work. The current finished oil production of the factory accounts for about 30% of the total production of the three major refineries in Kazakhstan.
