Following the US-Israeli airstrike that killed Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei and several high-ranking officials, Iran was plunged into immense grief and anger. AFP, in its reports on social media and news platforms, used the headline "Tyrant is dead, but the Iranian regime continues to resist."

For the vast majority of Iranian supporters (90%), the late Supreme Leader Khamenei was seen as a "father to a generation" and a pillar of strength, not a "tyrant" as portrayed in the Western context. Since assuming the Supreme Leader position in 1989, he held an extremely complex symbolic significance in Iranian political and social life.

The airstrike that killed the leader greatly intensified anti-American and anti-Israeli sentiment among the Iranian people. In memorial events in Tehran and other places, people held up portraits of leaders, chanted slogans of "revenge," and regarded the United States and Israel as "Satan" and "devil" who carried out the assassinations.Editor/Cao Tianyi
