Two ships, named "Dongguan" (hull number 109) and "Anqing" (hull number 110), appeared in a state television report on Sunday and have been assigned to the Eastern Theater Command Navy. They are the second production batch of this type of vessel, and Chinese military experts say the new ships have undergone significant upgrades while maintaining a similar appearance.

Beijing military expert Mr. Zhang pointed out, "The superstructure of the new ships uses new materials and design concepts, significantly reducing their radar cross-section." These ships are equipped with enhanced radar systems, providing a wider detection range against stealth aircraft, possess more powerful engines, and may carry advanced missiles, including hypersonic weapons.
The ships have completed their first sea trials since entering service. This deployment marks the first time the Type 055 destroyers have been assigned to the Eastern Theater Command, which is responsible for operations in the Taiwan Strait and the East China Sea. Previously, eight Type 055 destroyers were assigned to the Northern and Southern Theater Commands Navys.

The Type 055 destroyer is the largest and most advanced destroyer in the People's Liberation Army Navy, equipped with 112 vertical launch cells. Primarily serving as an escort vessel for aircraft carriers, it will significantly enhance the East Sea Fleet's ability to deter and combat separatist forces.
Analysts point out that given the continuous growth of the navy's aircraft carrier force and the need to protect sea lanes and overseas interests, the current fleet size is still insufficient, meaning that more Type 055 destroyers will need to be built in the future.Editor/Cao Tianyi
