Bukhara, a 2500 year old Silk Road ancient city, is about to welcome a modern air gateway. The Uzbekistan government, in collaboration with multiple departments, has officially launched the qualification application for the Bukhara New International Airport PPP project and issued an invitation to global investors. After Samarkand and Tashkent, this ancient capital of Central Asian civilization is embracing new opportunities for infrastructure upgrading with an open attitude.

48500 square meters
The new airport project is located in the Kumsultong area of Bukhara District, with a planned construction of a 48500 square meter passenger terminal. The designed throughput capacity for international flights is 1200 passengers per hour, and for domestic flights it is 400 passengers per hour. In addition to the terminal building, the project also includes the construction of catering facilities, parking lots, cargo yards, and 8000 cubic meters of fuel storage facilities, forming a fully functional modern aviation hub.
Existing facilities urgently need to be upgraded
As of the end of 2025, the existing Bukhara International Airport has served 574036 passengers, with international flights accounting for the majority of passenger flow. With the rapid recovery of Uzbekistan's tourism industry and the accelerated pace of opening up to the outside world, existing facilities are no longer able to meet development needs. The construction of the new airport has become a key measure to improve regional transportation hubs and enhance passenger experience, and is also an important part of the modernization of infrastructure in the development strategy of "New Uzbekistan". Global capital jointly builds a new gateway for the Silk Road
The new airport project operates under the PPP model, with the state responsible for managing airport infrastructure and private partners undertaking the construction and operation of passenger terminals and related facilities. The airport company has clearly stated that domestic and foreign enterprises with similar project experience can participate in bidding. Previously, Chinese companies such as Huawei have established cooperation paths with Ukraine in the field of digital infrastructure, providing imaginative space for project digitization empowerment. With the start of bidding, this Silk Road ancient city is looking forward to the joint participation of global investors.Editor/Gao Xue
