The Chongqing Western Land Sea New Corridor Hydrogen Energy Full Chain Low Carbon Transformation Project has been officially selected as a pilot project for hydrogen energy in the energy sector by the National Energy Administration. Behind this news is a green artery that has been surging for nearly a year - since its operation in April 2025, the Chongqing Guizhou Guangxi Hydrogen Corridor has operated nearly 7000 hydrogen heavy-duty trucks, continuously delivering laptops, chemical products, food and beverages from the southwestern hinterland to Qinzhou Port, and then shipping them globally. From domestic trunk lines to cross-border ASEAN, this 1150 kilometer hydrogen energy channel is writing the southwest answer sheet for hydrogen energy industrialization with solid operational data.

Nearly 7000 train services run north-south

The hydrogen corridor of the Western Land Sea New Corridor, with Chongqing Guizhou Qinzhou in Guangxi as the main line, spans 10 prefecture level cities in 3 provinces and has a total length of 1150 kilometers. As of the end of February 2026, nearly 7000 hydrogen heavy-duty trucks have been operated on the main and branch lines, and the cargo categories have expanded to four major categories: laptops, chemicals, food and beverage, and textile raw materials. Three major branch line scenarios have been established: short haul, distribution, and hub operation. In 2025, Chongqing will transport 327700 TEUs of goods through the Western Land Sea New Channel, a year-on-year increase of 30%. Among them, the volume and value of cross-border road shuttle bus shipments will increase by 90% and 306% respectively.

Cross border branch lines lead directly to ASEAN

On the basis of normalized operation of domestic trunk lines, hydrogen corridors are accelerating their extension towards cross-border logistics. In January 2026, a hydrogen cross-border highway bus carrying Chongqing made laptops departed from Chongqing, passed through Guizhou and Guangxi, and arrived at the Friendship Pass port in Yi'an, Vietnam, successfully completing a key breakthrough in cross-border branch lines and seamlessly connecting the China ASEAN cross-border highway bus network. This green logistics channel not only connects inland and coastal areas, but also extends its tentacles to the Southeast Asian market, injecting clean energy into regional economic and trade cooperation. Build 40 stations in four years

Unlike the traditional subsidy driven model of hydrogen energy pilot projects, the innovative construction of the 422 demonstration system in the hydrogen corridor drives the implementation of the entire industry chain in reverse with the demand for mainline logistics. At present, all four hydrogen refueling stations planned for the first phase have been completed and put into use, covering key logistics nodes. According to the plan, it is expected that by 2027, the number of hydrogen refueling stations along the route will exceed 40, more than 1500 hydrogen fuel cell trucks will be promoted, carbon emissions will be reduced by more than 4000 tons, and an integrated collaborative system for source organization, hydrogen vehicle operation, and hydrogen supply guarantee will be fully established, promoting hydrogen energy logistics from pilot demonstration to a new stage of large-scale and normalized operation.Editor/Gao Xue
