In March 2026, during the Noruz Festival celebration in the Naryn region of Kyrgyzstan, President Sadr Japarov's speech inspired the entire logistics industry in Central Asia. He clearly announced that the China Kyrgyzstan Uzbekistan Railway is planned to be completed and opened to traffic by 2030. This railway artery, which starts from Kashgar, Xinjiang, China, passes through Kyrgyzstan, and reaches Andijan, Uzbekistan, will transform Kyrgyzstan from a landlocked country to an international transit country, completely rewriting the cross-border transportation pattern in Central Asia.

The official target for opening to traffic has been set
Kyrgyzstan President Japarov made it clear during the Noruz Festival celebration in the Naren region that the China Kyrgyzstan Uzbekistan railway is planned to be completed and opened to traffic by 2030. This landmark project will transform Kyrgyzstan from a landlocked country to an international transit country, opening up new transportation channels and enhancing regional international influence. At present, the construction of infrastructure and the layout of trade and logistics centers along the railway line have become core tasks. The domestic railway has been extended to Kochkor, and will be continued to be built to Kara Keche and Markmar, achieving railway connectivity throughout the country and laying a solid foundation for international railway operations.
Interconnection has entered a critical period
Central Asian landlocked countries have long faced bottlenecks in logistics channels, and cross-border transportation relies on detour routes, resulting in prominent cost and timeliness gaps. Under the docking of the the Belt and Road Initiative and the development strategies of Central Asian countries, cross-border railways have become the key to breaking the regional economy. As a strategic channel connecting China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, the China Kyrgyzstan Uzbekistan Railway will shorten the transportation cycle of goods, open up new market channels, promote the coordinated development of industry, agriculture, and tourism in the Naren region and Central Asia, and improve the logistics network layout of the Eurasian continent. Transportation empowers industrial upgrading
The opening of the railway will activate the development potential of strategic regions such as Nalun, expand the railway network, strengthen regional linkage within Kyrgyzstan, and solve the problem of geographical barriers. Relying on railway channels, the Central Asian region will undertake more cross-border trade flows, accelerating the formation of industrial clusters such as logistics, commerce, and processing. At the same time, railway connectivity promotes resource complementarity and production capacity cooperation among China, Kyrgyzstan, and Ukraine, helping Central Asia integrate into the global supply chain and achieve a leapfrog development from transportation connectivity to economic integration. With the establishment of the 2030 opening target, this railway artery that runs through the hinterland of Central Asia is accelerating from blueprint to reality.Editor/Gao Xue
