As an important energy base in China, Xinjiang's new energy production exceeded its new electricity consumption for the first time in the first quarter.

In the first quarter of 2026, the total electricity consumption in Xinjiang increased by 7.1 billion kilowatt hours compared to the same period last year. At the same time, the power generation of wind and photovoltaic new energy in Xinjiang reached 38.1 billion kilowatt hours, an increase of 8.4 billion kilowatt hours from the first quarter of last year, accounting for 118% of the total increase in electricity consumption in society.

Cai Pengcheng, Deputy Director of the Control Department of the Dispatch Control Center of State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power Co., Ltd., said, "This change shows that Xinjiang's new energy generation has become the absolute mainstay of new electricity consumption, marking a fundamental change in Xinjiang's energy structure and reflecting the continuous enhancement of our green power supply capacity

At present, the cumulative installed capacity of new energy in Xinjiang power grid has reached nearly 170 million kilowatts, accounting for over 60% of the total installed capacity. Xinjiang has established a characteristic green power supply system with multiple complementary energies of "northern Xinjiang wind and southern Xinjiang light", providing sufficient power supply guarantee for the steady growth of new energy generation. At the same time, in order to better absorb new energy, Xinjiang has also achieved precise connection between noon power generation and evening electricity consumption in the central and eastern regions through staggered green power trading.

As of now, the cumulative external transmission of new energy in Xinjiang has exceeded 300 billion kilowatt hours, accounting for nearly 30% of the total external transmission of Xinjiang.Editor/Yang Meiling
