The outline of the 15th Five Year Plan proposes to solidly promote key technological innovations such as new energy storage, vigorously develop new energy storage, position new energy storage as the core support of the new energy system, and officially incorporate it into the national strategic emerging pillar industry. The recently released "White Paper on Energy Storage Industry Research 2026" shows that by 2030, the cumulative installed capacity of new energy storage in China will exceed 370 million kilowatts, an increase of more than 1.5 times compared to the end of the 14th Five Year Plan.

By 2025, the newly installed capacity of new energy storage in China will reach 66 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 51.9%. By the end of 2025, the installed capacity of new energy storage systems that have been completed and put into operation in China has reached 136 million kilowatts, an increase of 84% compared to the end of 2024 and a growth of more than 40 times compared to the end of the 13th Five Year Plan, achieving a leapfrog development and ranking first in the world in terms of installed capacity. Chen Haisheng, director of the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that with the increase in the proportion of renewable energy, the demand for energy storage time will increase. By 2030, the cumulative average installed time will increase from 2.58 hours to 3.47 hours. Keywords: New News Network, Energy Storage

The white paper shows that as the proportion of new energy generation continues to increase, the demand for long-term regulation resources in the power system is becoming increasingly urgent. It is expected that by 2030, the average cumulative installed time of new energy storage in China will approach 3.5 hours, opening up an industrialization window for long-term energy storage technologies such as flow batteries and compressed air. Energy storage is accelerating from auxiliary regulation resources to the basic links of the power system.
