A 'green power bank' that is about to change the regional energy landscape is quietly brewing among the mountains in the north of Hohhot. The Haraqin Pumped Storage Power Station is located in Xincheng District, Hohhot City, with a total installed capacity of 1.4 million kilowatts and a total investment of approximately 8.9 billion yuan. The power station hub project includes key facilities such as upper and lower reservoirs, water transmission systems, and underground powerhouses. It is a key demonstration project for wind solar water storage integration in the 14th Five Year Plan for Energy Development of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. According to the plan, the project will be approved and commence construction in 2026, and is expected to be officially put into operation around 2030.

The core role of the three major topics

Recently, Inner Mongolia Power Group organized a review meeting for the feasibility study phase of the Haraqin Pumped Storage Power Station in Hohhot, covering three major topics: comparison and selection of hub layout patterns, selection of normal water storage levels, and overall construction layout planning. After careful review and in-depth discussion by the attending experts, all three special reports have successfully passed the review, which means that the preliminary work of the project has achieved key stage results and laid a solid foundation for project approval and construction. The three major topics are the core points of the feasibility study stage of pumped storage power stations, and their research results directly affect the technical feasibility, investment return rate, and long-term operation safety and stability of the project.

The comparison of hub layout patterns aims to determine the optimal spatial layout scheme for core buildings such as the upper reservoir and underground powerhouse of the power station; Selection of normal water level, determination of reasonable water level through scientific demonstration, taking into account power generation benefits, flood control safety, and ecological protection; Overall construction layout planning, coordinating the planning of construction sites, transportation, water and electricity facilities, and other supporting facilities to ensure the orderly progress of the project.
