Double the transmission capacity

The Qinghai Tibet Interconnection Project was put into operation in December 2011, which is the first power heaven road into Xizang. In order to meet the growing demand for electricity in Xizang, the State Grid completed the second phase of the Qinghai Tibet DC expansion project in one and a half years, increasing the transmission power from 600000 kilowatts to 1.2 million kilowatts, and doubling the transmission capacity. The expansion project will be officially put into operation at the end of September 2025. From putting into operation to the end of the first quarter of 2026, the cumulative power transmission to Xizang exceeded 2.12 billion kWh, and the surplus hydropower transmission to Xizang reached 390 million kWh.

Improving the efficiency of mutual aid in both directions

In winter and spring, Xizang's hydropower output is insufficient, and the expanded Tibetan DC high-power power transmission ensures Xizang's power supply; In summer and autumn, during the wet season, clean energy such as hydropower and photovoltaic power generation in Xizang can be delivered on a large scale. The level of mutual power assistance and protection between the two provinces of Qinghai and Tibet continues to improve, and the efficiency of two-way resource allocation continues to increase.
