On May 11, 2026, the main construction of the Songzi Pumped Storage Power Station in Hubei officially began. As the first pumped storage project invested by the National Energy Group, with a total investment of 8.198 billion yuan and a total installed capacity of 1200MW, we aim to anchor the goal of "the most competitive green and intelligent pumped storage power station" and strive to create a high-quality project with three excellences and two excellences.

Gezhouba wins 700 million yuan core bid section

The Songzi Power Station is located in Songzi City, Jingzhou City. It is a first-class large-scale (1) project, consisting of three major buildings: an upper reservoir, a lower reservoir, and a water transmission and power generation system. China Gezhouba Group undertakes the construction of the upper reservoir building and metal structure installation project, with a contract amount of 712 million yuan and a construction period of 48.5 months. The main construction site is located in Fenghuangpi, Xiejiaping Township, Songzi City.

At present, the installed capacity of pumped storage in China has exceeded 68 million kilowatts, and the planned new installed capacity during the 15th Five Year Plan period exceeds 80 million kilowatts. The installed capacity of Songzi Power Station, with a capacity of 1200MW, accounts for about 18% of the total installed capacity of pumped storage in Hubei Province. After completion, it will significantly enhance the peak shaving capacity of the central Hubei region.

The National Energy Group stated that the Songzi project is the first landing project of the group in the field of pumped storage, and will be controlled throughout the entire process based on the standards of excellent quality, excellent construction period, excellent cost, good safety, and good integrity, striving to create an industry benchmark.
