At 0:00 on April 1st, Chile time, the Chilean Highway No. 5 Talca-Chillan Concession Co., Ltd. wholly-owned by China Railway Construction Co., Ltd. and the original concessionaire successfully completed the work handover and began to operate the Chilean Highway No. Franchise project in the Ka-Chilian section.

It is understood that this is the first highway concession project of a Chinese company in Chile, and it is also the largest infrastructure project of a Chinese company in Chile, marking the successful entry of a Chinese company into the field of infrastructure concession operations in Chile.

The China Railway Construction Consortium, formed by China Railway Construction International Investment Corporation and China Railway Construction International, undertakes the construction and operation of the project. The project is about 195 kilometers in length and will be implemented in the "integrated investment, construction and operation" model. The project includes the operation and maintenance of existing roads and the expansion of 30 kilometers, the design and construction of 56 kilometers of roads around the city, and the establishment of 13 new electronic toll collection systems.

It is reported that since the project was prepared for operation in January 2021, the China Railway Construction International Investment-China Railway Construction International Consortium project team has overcome many adverse effects such as the raging epidemic and the city’s foot restraint. The company conducts multiple rounds of research and screening, organizes systematic training for operation and maintenance personnel, and finally ensures the smooth handover of the project as scheduled.
