On June 22, 2021, the Shanghai Municipal Public Resources Trading Center issued an announcement of winning the bid for the new construction of the Caobao Road Expressway. The Shanghai Tunnel won the second bid for the project for 2.3 billion yuan and the Shanghai Construction Engineering won the third bid for the project for 2.4 billion yuan.

Project Overview

The construction site is located at the Jiamin Elevated Road in the west and the intersection of Guiping Road in the east, with a length of about 7.1 kilometers. The new construction of Caobao Road Expressway includes two parts: the main line and the surface road. The newly-built main line is about 7.1 kilometers long, adopts the form of elevated, tunnel laying, expressway standards, and the basic construction scale is 6 lanes in both directions. The ground road is about 3.9 kilometers long, and the main road standard is widened from two-way 4 fast and 2 slow to two-way 6 fast and 2 slow.

The rapid construction of Caobao Road is a major construction project at the municipal level. The entire project will effectively connect the Jiamin Elevated Road and the Central Ring Road. After completion, it will become the “South Horizontal” of the “one vertical and three horizontal” rapid distribution system at the periphery of the Hongqiao Hub. It will be mainly responsible for the Hongqiao Hub Fast transportation links with key development areas in the southeast of the central city.

The construction of this project can relieve the pressure on the Yan'an West Road Elevated and the G50 Shanghai-Chongqing Expressway.
