Hanwha Solutions announced that storage tank manufacturer Hanwha Cimarron and energy company Sunbridge Energy Services have signed an agreement to provide storage tanks for compressed natural gas (CNG).
The 10-year, US$260 million deal aims to provide tube trailers containing dozens of containers that can store compressed natural gas and other pressurized gases. Each trailer is 42 to 45 feet long and can carry 18 Jupiter Tanks developed by Hanwha Cimarron.
Given that the maximum storage capacity of each Jupiter Tank is 485 kg, a tube trailer can transport up to 9 tons of compressed natural gas at a time. Jupiter Tank is a type IV composite fuel tank made of full carbon fiber, which can withstand a pressure level of 300 bar.
Continuously meet the expansion of the natural gas market
Ryoo Du-hyoung, Head of Advanced Materials Division of Hanwha Solutions, said: “We will use the supply of compressed natural gas tanks in the United States as an opportunity to expand into the rapidly growing hydrogen storage and transportation business.” This is the first time that Hanwha Cimaron has been established since its establishment in 2020. Won a supply contract for carbon fiber-wrapped high-pressure tanks. The company, formerly known as Cimarron Composite, was acquired by Hanwha Solutions in December 2020. Due to increasing demand for storage technologies suitable for hydrogen, aerospace and other high-tech industries, the agreement is expected to accelerate Hanwha Cimarron's expansion into the carbon outer packaging pressure vessel market.
The company has decided to spend US$51 million to build a production facility in Opelika. After the construction is completed in 2022, the plant will produce 4,000 high-pressure tanks each year. By 2025, further investment will be made in the development of storage tanks for hydrogen-powered cars, drones and rockets.
