The Economic and Technological Development Zone of Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province held the signing ceremony for the seventh batch of major projects in 2025, and the 3 million tons/year PTA project of China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation Jiujiang Branch (hereinafter referred to as "Jiujiang Petrochemical") was officially launched. The total investment of this project is about 33.2 billion yuan, covering three core areas: an annual output of 1.5 million tons of aromatic hydrocarbons, 3 million tons of PTA (purified terephthalic acid), and 3.76 million tons of PET (polyethylene terephthalate). This marks a crucial step for Jiujiang Petrochemical Industrial Park to move towards an integrated refining and chemical industry chain.

The relevant person in charge of Jiujiang Branch of China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation stated: "The 3 million tons/year PTA project of Jiujiang Petrochemical is an important measure for Sinopec to layout the aromatic hydrocarbon industry base in the central region, and it is also a specific practice to implement the '1269' action plan for modernizing the key manufacturing industry chain in Jiangxi Province and the '9610' project in Jiujiang City. We will accelerate project progress to support the high-quality development of the petrochemical industry. ”

After the completion of the project, it will fully leverage the industrial foundation advantages of Jiujiang Petrochemical's existing 1.5 million ton aromatics project, combined with downstream 3.76 million ton polyester production capacity, to build a complete industrial chain of "refining aromatics PTA-PET", achieving full process coverage from crude oil to high-end chemical materials, and further enhancing industrial added value and competitiveness.

The Jiujiang Petrochemical Industrial Park is located in the Chengdong area of Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. It is the first provincial-level petrochemical industrial park in Jiangxi Province and was approved by the Jiangxi Provincial Government in October 2020. The total planned area is approximately 8064.6 acres. The park is divided into two major functional areas: one is the oil refining industry area, which relies on the existing production area of about 5400 acres of Jiujiang Petrochemical and has a crude oil processing capacity of 10 million tons per year; The second is the integrated refining and chemical area, with a planned construction of about 2600 acres, focusing on the development of the downstream aromatic hydrocarbon industry chain and becoming the core growth pole of the future park.
