Bangladesh spends 385 million US dollars to build its first steel arch bridge

The new Kewatkhali steel arch bridge is planned to be built in Mymensingh, Bangladesh. The structure will span the Brahmaputra River, and the project is expected to cost US$385 million.

Most of the US$225.3 million will be provided by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). At the same time, the remaining USD 159.7 million will be provided by the government of Bangladesh.

The bridge will be completed in 2025. The construction of the new bridge will reduce the travel time of Bangladeshi drivers and it will be the country's first steel arch bridge. The builder's goal is to ensure the service life of the structure through timely maintenance. The bridge is equipped with bridge health monitoring technology to provide real-time status data.
