On November 18, 2021, the Leshan Airport project in Sichuan Province officially started at the test section of Leshan Airport, Caijin Town, Wutongqiao District, Leshan City, which means that the construction of Leshan Airport has entered the full implementation stage.

It is reported that the Leshan Airport project has a total investment of 6.836 billion yuan and covers an area of 6,823 mu. It mainly constructs a runway, a civil aviation terminal of 28,000 square meters, and supporting production and living facilities such as air traffic control, power supply, fuel supply, and fire fighting. In terms of transportation facilities, in addition to the airport highway that has already started, the Leshan Airport Expressway has been included in the highway network planning of Sichuan Province, and preliminary work is being carried out. The corresponding high-speed rail construction has also completed the preliminary planning.

Wang Bo, deputy director of the General Department of Leshan Airport Investment Development (Group) Co., Ltd., said that the current phase of Leshan Airport is designed to meet the target of 2.6 million passengers and 16,000 tons of cargo and mail in 2035. In the long term, it can be predicted that the annual passenger throughput of Leshan Airport will be 4.5 million passengers, and the annual cargo and mail throughput will be 31,600 tons. The airport project is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2023.

After the completion of the project, it will mainly open business routes connecting "North, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen" and tourism routes connecting inside and outside the province, such as Lijiang, Jiuzhaigou, Zhangjiajie, etc., which will greatly enhance Leshan's transportation location advantage.
