The construction of a new airport in northern Kuwait has been given the green light by the authorities. Authorities, however, did not disclose the completion date of the project or its value. Kuwait currently has an international airport located 9.6 miles south of Kuwait City and is a hub for Kuwait Airways and Al Jazeera. The establishment of the new airport is in line with the research and recommendations of Kuwait's Fourth Structure Plan, state news agency Kuna reported. The Jahra Provincial City Council Council is coordinating with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on the allocation of new airport construction sites.

In November 2021, authorities announced plans to spend nearly $8.2 billion on 14 strategic projects aimed at developing the country's main airport. Key projects include a new terminal, T-2, expected to cost $5 billion to build at Kuwait International Airport, which can accommodate 25 million passengers a year, in addition to a third runway and a control tower. With 40% of construction work complete, T2 is expected to be one of the most advanced and environmentally friendly airports in the world and an iconic gateway to Kuwait.Editor/XingWentao
