Turkish joint ventures Mapa Insaat Ve Ticaret and Cengiz Insaat Sanayi Ve Ticaret have won the contract for the construction of a section of the Sibiu-Pitesti highway.

The €859.45 million deal covers 31.33km between Boita and Cornetu and is expected to be completed in 2027. Work will include the construction of 49 viaducts and bridges and seven tunnels between 250 million and 1,590 meters in length. The Romanian Public Roads Authority CNAIR noted that in the first stage of the bidding process, in July 2021, 11 bidders were lined up. Six were then shortlisted.
