Xinjiang has a good endowment of energy resources. On March 17, 2022, China Huadian Urumqi 1 million kilowatt wind and photovoltaic base project officially started construction. This is also the first multi-functional clean energy base in Xinjiang that integrates "wind energy, photovoltaics, thermal power, and energy storage".

The total installed capacity of the project is 1 million kilowatts and the total investment is about 6.5 billion yuan. Introduce photovoltaic sand control and "desert soilization" ecological restoration technologies, carry out wind power photovoltaic sand control, wind protection, grass fixation, and systematically protect and restore desert, Gobi, and desert areas.

Chang Jiaxing, deputy general manager of China Huadian Xinjiang Power Generation Co., Ltd.: This project uses a 6-megawatt wind turbine, which is currently the largest onshore wind turbine in China. (At the same time) the "Photovoltaic +" scheme is adopted in the photovoltaic project to realize the integrated development of new energy and ecology.

According to the requirements of the National Development and Reform Commission's "Three Reforms Linkage", this project will increase the depth of peak shaving and make room for the development of new energy by implementing flexible transformation of 4 power plants and 10 thermal power units around Urumqi.
