Germany plans to improve bridges on most of the country's motorway network. On the priority list will be the A45 motorway route, which connects the Ruhr area with the important business centre of Frankfurt.

The total closure of the Sauerland line near Lüdenscheid will continue for several years. Not only is this a disaster for the people and economy of the region, South Westphalia is one of the most powerful industrial regions in Germany. The closure also has an impact on the entire German autobahn system, as traffic has to be diverted to equally congested routes on a large scale. West Germany is known to have hundreds of bridges, most of which were built between 1960 and 1980, and are in desperate need of updating. Federal and state governments have been working hard for about a decade. Keywords: engineering construction, engineering news

But it's not uncommon for projects to be delayed - such as the Rahmede viaduct, which has been under reconstruction since 2014. Many bridges along the route are in poor condition and are in urgent need of maintenance, repair or replacement. The bridge across Rahmede Valley had to close in late 2021 due to concerns about its structure. It must be completely removed and replaced. Autobahn, the German government's road company, has set a budget of 530 million euros.Editor/XingWentao
