Swedish state railway operator SJAB and Alstom have signed an agreement to supply 25 Zefiro Express high-speed trains, with an option to add 15 more. The contract value of the first firm order is approximately EUR 650 million. The signing of the contract follows SJ's decision to award the Alstom train contract in December 2021. The new train can reach a top speed of 250 kilometers per hour and will start deliveries in 2026.
Zefiro Express trains are designed to operate in harsh weather conditions, even in temperatures as low as -40 degrees Celsius, and their cutting-edge technology will ensure a safe and comfortable journey for passengers. Train cars have flat floors and no ramps, making it easy to get on and off the train.
Each ZefiroExpress high-speed train has a total capacity of 363 seats, providing passengers with an extraordinary travel experience. They are ergonomically designed for maximum comfort and feature premium seating and lighting. "This is an amazing investment we are making now and it will further prove that SJ is the way of the future of travel. I am sure our customers will love our new train, it is fast, very comfortable, with comfortable seats and lots of light , as well as a great opportunity to work and relax on the go,” said Arvid Fredman, SJ’s Director of Vehicles. When developing carriage widths, electrical systems and signaling systems, we learned that these trains would be used for long-distance train traffic between major cities in Sweden, as well as for cross-border traffic to Denmark and Norway. The new car will complement SJ's refurbished X2000 trains and will offer a dedicated bike area, luggage and a fully equipped SJBistro with lounge area. All systems are technologically advanced, such as efficient connectivity and radio-transparent windows, quiet carriages, and the ability to move trains by battery operation to deal with power disturbances on the line.Editor/XingWentao
