On April 12, 2022, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, and Qatar Energy Company jointly announced that the "Qatar Hundred Ship Construction Plan - Qatar North Gas Field Expansion Ship Purchase" undertaken by Hudong-Zhonghua The construction contract for the first batch of four 174,000-cubic-meter liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers will take effect immediately. So far, Hudong-Zhonghua has undertaken 11 large-scale LNG carrier orders in 2022.
The first batch of construction orders for this project was officially settled in China, which is the first place Hudong Zhonghua won with its advanced design concept, excellent brand ship type and full life cycle service system in the competition with international competitors, marking the "China "Made" and the Chinese ship brand once again won world recognition.
The first batch of four LNG ships to sign the construction contract will be the fifth-generation "Hengchang series" 174,000-cubic-meter LNG ships independently developed and designed by Hudong-Zhonghua. With a total length of 299 meters, a width of 46.4 meters and a depth of 26.25 meters, it is tailored according to the technical standards formed by Qatar Energy's operation of the world's largest LNG fleet.
The ship adopts a new generation of double skeg lines, and adopts a number of low-carbon and digital technologies, so that the ship has good fast performance and less sailing emissions. The signing is the third LNG carrier order recently announced by the shipyard of China State Shipbuilding Corporation.
