Work on the Lot3 section of the Sibiu-Pitesti highway in Romania will start in due course. The 37.5km section will be constructed by Italian and Romanian contractors. Construction of this part is expected to take 57 months to complete and the work is worth 1.08 billion euros. Italian contractor Webuild owns 90% of the scheme, while its local partner Tancrad owns the remaining 10%.

In any case, this is not an easy road project to implement. The section includes the construction of no less than 95 bridges and viaducts, with a total length of 12.5 kilometers, and a 1.7-kilometer double-tube tunnel. In addition, the work includes the construction of two major junctions. Webuild is already working on another section of the highway and is involved in the project for Romania's landmark Braira Bridge across the Danube.

When completed, the Sibiu-Pitesti motorway will have a total length of 122 km, connecting central and western Romania with the European motorway network as part of the trans-European transport network Rhine-Danube Corridor. The Romanian government provided 15% of the necessary funding, with a majority stake of 85% being funded by the EU.

Meanwhile, contracts are being offered for three sections of the 77.4-kilometer highway linking Bakau and Pascany. The total value of these contracts is 1.19 billion euros. These parts must all be ready for use within 30 months. The longest of the three sections is Lot1, with a total length of 30.3 km, connecting Trifesti and Saucesti. The second longest section is Lot3, with a total length of 28.1 kilometers, connecting Pascani and Mircesti. Lot2 connects Trifesti and Gheraiesti and is 19 kilometers long.Editor/XingWentao
