On August 9, 2022, the Anhui Provincial Development and Reform Commission officially approved the feasibility study report of the Chizhou Yangtze River Railway Bridge, which means that the project has officially entered the construction preparation stage from the preliminary project approval stage.

According to the approval, the two ends of the Chizhou Yangtze River Highway and Railway Bridge are located in Jiangkou Street, Guichi District, Chizhou City, and Tanggou Town, Zongyang County, Tongling City, respectively. International railway and urban rail transit, with a total length of about 3.12 kilometers, excluding road and railway connections at both ends. The main bridge across the river adopts the (98+378+812+364+98) meter twin-tower cable-stayed bridge scheme, and the main bridge is 1754 meters long.

The upper highway part of the bridge adopts the two-way six-lane expressway standard with a design speed of 100 km/h; the lower railway part adopts the four-line railway standard, two of which are the Hefei-Chizhou intercity railway, and the speed target value of the crossing section is 250 km/h; In addition, two tiers of urban rail transit are reserved, taking into account the urban (suburban) railway traffic demand, and the main technical standards will be determined separately. The approval information shows that the estimated total investment of the Chizhou Yangtze River Railway Bridge is 6.828 billion yuan, and the construction period is 57 months.

According to reports, the Chizhou Yangtze River Highway-Railway Bridge project is a key project in the planning of the new cross-river channel of the Yangtze River Trunk Line in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and has been included in the national "Yangtze River Trunk Line Cross-River Channel Layout Plan (2020-2035)" and "Anhui Province's Effective Investment Action Plan (2022)", the project is a control project for the Hefei-Chizhou Railway and the S40 Qingyang-Zongyang Expressway. According to the relevant person in charge of the Chizhou Development and Reform Commission, previously, all 22 topics in the feasibility study stage of the project have been completed.
