On August 24, 2022, Samsung C&T said it had signed an 800 billion won design, procurement and construction contract with Qatar Energy to build a solar power plant with a power generation capacity of 875MW. The power station will start generating electricity by the end of 2024. About 1.6 million solar panels will be installed at the plants, which together are the size of 1,400 football fields. Construction on the project will begin in September and is expected to be completed by November 2024.

Upon completion, Qatar Energy plans to use the capacity to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from company facilities in the two cities, including large LNG expansions at North Field East and North Field South, according to Samsung C&T.
Samsung C&T previously won a 2.4 trillion won LNG terminal construction project in Qatar, which is currently under construction. Through an extensive overseas business network, Samsung C&T has accumulated experience in successfully developing large-scale projects. The company plans to use these experiences to implement this solar power plant project.

An executive from Samsung C&T said that with this project in Qatar, we are recognized as a global player in the field of renewable energy generation. This is our next project following the successful completion of the Guam Solar Power Plant Project. We plan to expand the value chain from renewable energy generation to project management.
