Recently, the China Hydropower Bureau No. 4 won the bid for Tibet's first hydropower station with an installed capacity of over one million kilowatts - the construction of civil engineering, electromechanical and metal structure installation works for the first hub project of the Yuqu River Zala Hydropower Station in Tibet.

The Zhala Hydropower Station of the Yuqu River in Tibet has technical characteristics and difficulties such as high water head, deep shaft, and multiple fault zones. The sixth level in the level development plan is Tibet's first hydropower project with an installed capacity of over one million kilowatts, and it is also the "vanguard" in the construction of a clean energy base in southeast Tibet.

Project Overview

This project is located in Zhalang Village, Bitu Township, Zuogong County, Qamdo City, Tibet Autonomous Region and Zhula Village, Chawalong Township, Chayu County, Nyingchi City. The main development task is power generation, and a mixed development method is adopted. The total storage capacity is 9.14 million square meters, the total installed capacity is 1015 megawatts, and the average power generation capacity for many years is 3.946 billion kwh. It is a second-class large (2) project.

The main buildings of the hub are composed of water retaining structures, diversion tunnels, and power plant buildings. The water retaining structure is a concrete gravity dam with a crest length of 207 meters and a maximum height of 70 meters. Flood discharge facilities are arranged on the dam body, with one surface hole and two bottom holes for flood discharge and sand washing; one ecological water discharge hole is set on the left side of the overflow dam section; 5.5 kilometers; the power plant is ground type.

The engineering construction contents in charge of China Hydropower Fourth Bureau include: diversion project; concrete gravity dam, stilling basin, ecological power station, fishway, civil engineering of water inlet of power station, electromechanical and metal structure installation; upper level section of diversion tunnel; treatment of dumped deformation ; Protection, drainage, operation, maintenance, and management of waste slag yards and topsoil storage yards; civil construction of No. 1 construction branch tunnel of diversion tunnel, and sealing of No. 1 and No. 2 construction branch tunnels; environmental protection and water and soil protection of production and living areas during construction period Maintenance; temporary safety monitoring during the construction period; permanent safety monitoring, geophysical detection and scientific research and construction cooperation for Naozhong fractures; smart engineering; construction auxiliary facilities, etc.

This project is also the third hydropower station that China Hydropower Fourth Bureau participated in the construction of in Tibet. The project will start construction in July 2021. China Hydropower Fourth Bureau participated in the construction task of the Zhala Hydropower Station in Tibet in the early stage. As the backbone power station of the national Tibetan electricity transmission and transmission network, the construction of this project will play a demonstration and leading role in the development of clean energy in Tibet, and is of great significance to accelerating the development and construction of clean energy in Tibet and promoting regional sustainable development and ecological environment protection.
