Sir Joe Bossano, Minister of Economic Development of the Government of Gibraltar, recently visited Beijing Construction Engineering Group, where he had discussions with Chang Yongchun, General Manager of Beijing Construction Engineering Group, discussing new prospects for in-depth cooperation between the two sides and discussing new opportunities for the development of the Belt and Road. The two sides signed a memorandum of cooperation on the spot to further upgrade their strategic cooperation.

Sir Joe Bossano visited the exhibition hall of Beijing Construction Engineering Group, had a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the development process and achievements of Beijing Construction Engineering Group, felt the responsibility of Chinese enterprises, and wrote a speech on the spot to express good wishes for the cooperation between the two sides.

After the visit, Sir Joe Bozano signed a memorandum of cooperation with Beijing Construction Engineering International on behalf of the Gibraltar Government, which is another key measure for both sides to further strengthen the cooperation bond and improve the quality of cooperation after Beijing Construction Engineering signed a strategic cooperation agreement on National Economic Development Plan with the Gibraltar government at the Service Trade Fair in 2021. According to the memorandum, Beijing Construction Engineering will continue to be deeply involved in the construction of 9 projects, including the Gibraltar Cruise Passenger Transport Center, the renovation of the old housing Department, and the Jewish Apartment Phase II, with a total contract value of 100 million pounds.

Sir Joe Bossano said that Beijing Construction Engineering has a long history of development, excellent engineering performance and outstanding performance in the Belt and Road construction. In recent years, the Gibraltar government and Beijing Construction Engineering have achieved excellent results through mutual trust and win-win cooperation. So far, six projects under Gibraltar's National Economic Development Plan have been successfully implemented.

The smooth operation of the bilateral cooperation model has greatly promoted the economic and social development of the local community, and helped the Gibraltar government and people learn more about Chinese construction, Chinese standards and Chinese strength. The Government of Gibraltar looks forward to and welcomes Beijing Construction Engineering to participate in more areas of local construction and economic development, so as to create a better future with the people of Gibraltar.

In 2021, Beijing Jiangong International Engineering Co., Ltd. and the Ministry of Economic Development of Gibraltar Government formally signed the framework agreement of general contract at the Service Trade Fair site, jointly promoting the construction of 15 projects under Gibraltar's National Economic Development Plan, with a total contract value of 500 million pounds. Up to now, six projects of the plan, including Jewish apartment, shooting range parking building, East Coast renovation, senior apartment, Laguna social housing and Chilton Playground, have entered the implementation stage. Among them, the Jewish apartment and shooting range parking building have been successfully completed and put into use.
