The Azerbaijan railway delegation visited China, opening a new chapter in China-Azerbaijan transport cooperation. On July 7, 2025, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Azerbaijan Railways (ADY), Lofshan Rustamov, led a delegation to hold a series of talks with CRRC Group, Lianyungang Port Group and China Railway Container Company, and reached a number of important consensus on deepening railway equipment, port coordination and international channel construction.
In the field of equipment cooperation, the two sides focused on promoting the procurement project of 7 new locomotives. Rustamov said that with the improvement of Azerbaijan's status as an international logistics hub, upgrading railway equipment is essential to ensure transportation safety. CRRC Group is committed to providing high-quality locomotive products and supporting technical personnel training to help ADY improve its transportation capacity.
Port linkage has become a new highlight of cooperation. According to the data, in the first half of 2024, the number of Chinese container trains passing through the Trans-Caspian Corridor has reached 199, a significant year-on-year increase. Wang Weichao, chairman of Lianyungang Port Group, said that he would give full play to the advantages of Lianyungang as a cargo transit hub for Japan and South Korea, deepen coordination with Baku Port, and jointly build a more competitive Asia-Europe logistics channel. It is worth noting that after Baku Port is integrated into the ADY system, the annual throughput will be increased to 25 million tons, providing stronger support for international transit.
In terms of the construction of international corridors, the two sides focused on innovative measures to improve the efficiency of trans-Caspian transport. China Railway Container Co., Ltd. was invited to join the Trans-Caspian Multimodal Transport Company established by the railway agencies of the UAE, Kazakhstan and Georgia, and will further improve the operational efficiency of the China-Europe Railway Express through digital solutions and path optimization.
The visit will last until July 11, and a number of cooperation agreements are expected to be signed. Industry insiders pointed out that the deepening of China-Arab transport cooperation will not only promote bilateral economic and trade exchanges, but also inject new momentum into the construction of the international logistics system under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. With the continuous improvement of the Trans-Caspian Sea corridor, this new logistics artery connecting Asia and Europe is showing increasing attractiveness.(This article is from the official website of Seetao www.seetao.com.
