Pumped-storage hydroelectricity is known as the power grid charging treasure and regulator, and is an important regulating power source of the power grid. On July 28, 2023, the commencement ceremony of the Three Gorges Group Shitai Pumped-storage hydroelectricity was held in Shitai County, Chizhou City, Anhui Province, marking that the project officially entered the construction phase of the main works.

Located in Xianyu Town and Dingxiang Town, Shitai County County, Chizhou, Shitai County Pumped-storage hydroelectricity, with a total investment of 7.89 billion yuan, is the single project with the largest investment since the establishment of Shitai County, the key implementation project of the "14th Five Year Plan" of the National Medium and Long term Development Plan for Pumped Storage, and the first Pumped-storage hydroelectricity invested and constructed by Three Gorges Corporation in Anhui.

The power station is designed and installed with four 300000 kilowatt pumped storage units, with a total installed capacity of 1.2 million kilowatts. The designed annual power generation is 1.471 billion kilowatt hours, and the designed annual pumping power consumption is 1.961 billion kilowatt hours. It belongs to a first-class large (I) type project, and the hub project consists of buildings such as an upper reservoir, a lower reservoir, a water conveyance system, an underground powerhouse, and a switching station. After the completion and operation of the power station, it will play an important role in promoting the consumption of new energy, promoting green and low-carbon energy transformation, and ensuring the safe and stable operation of the power system. The project has significant economic benefits, social benefits, and ecological benefits.
