Chinese Ambassador to Armenia Fan Yong discussed with the General Manager of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant Eduard Martiro the construction of new units in Armenia and bilateral cooperation in the field of nuclear energy.

Martirosian informed the Chinese Ambassador about the start of work on the second extension of the life of the unit 2. He also noted that Chinese companies involved in the project can also participate in tenders announced within the framework of the project.

The two sides also discussed issues related to the construction of new units in Armenia and outlined in this regard how to ensure cooperation between the two countries through coordination between foreign ministries

More substantive interaction between Chinese institutions in this field."Following the discussion, both sides welcomed the willingness to cooperate and positively assessed the preconditions in this regard." "

Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told a meeting of the Nuclear Safety Regulatory Commission that the construction of new nuclear power plants requires the right personnel and an independent organization should be established.

It should be recalled that the repair work to extend the life of the Armenian nuclear power plant was previously carried out using a $270 million loan and a $30 million grant from Russia. Most of the work stipulated in the loan plan was completed, but the agreement was subsequently suspended and the work continued to be financed from the Armenian State budget.

In December, Rosatom signed an agreement with the Armenian Nuclear Power plant, according to which the Russian company will be responsible for managing the work to extend the operational life of the nuclear power plant again from 2026 to 2036. Editor/Wentao Xing
