At the recently concluded 2024 National Energy Work Conference, an ambitious goal was put forward: by 2024, the country's new installed wind power and photovoltaic capacity should reach about 200 million kilowatts. The achievement of this goal not only shows the rapid momentum of China's green energy development, but also means that China will complete the wind power and photovoltaic installed capacity targets originally scheduled for 2030 ahead of schedule.

Zhang Xiaoqiang, executive vice chairman of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges and former vice director of the National Development and Reform Commission, spoke highly of this in a recent interview. He pointed out that according to the current development speed and planning, by the end of 2024, the total installed capacity of wind power photovoltaic is expected to reach 1.2 billion kilowatts, an achievement that will be reached six years ahead of the original plan.

However, with the rapid increase in the speed of green electricity construction, it also brings a series of new challenges. At present, most wind power and photovoltaic projects are concentrated in the western region of China, how to consume and effectively deliver these green energy has become the key to the next development. In order to achieve this goal, it is not only necessary to strengthen the construction of smart grids, but also to make breakthroughs in many aspects, such as energy storage technology, energy transportation, and application scenarios.

Zhang stressed that the development of the middle and lower reaches of the industrial chain is crucial to make full use of the green electricity that has been built. The construction of smart grids can ensure the stable transmission and efficient distribution of electric energy, while the development of energy storage technology can provide a stable power supply when wind power and photovoltaic power generation fluctuate. In addition, with the rapid development of electric vehicles, green transportation and other fields, the application scenarios of green electricity will also be further expanded.

In order to achieve these goals, the Chinese government and enterprises are taking a series of measures, including increasing investment, promoting technological innovation, and optimizing the policy environment. At the same time, strengthening international cooperation is also an indispensable part of promoting the development of global green energy through joint efforts with the international community.

Looking to the future, China's green energy development prospects are promising. With the continuous progress of technology and the continuous support of policies, it is believed that China will go further on the road of green energy and make greater contributions to the global energy transition and the response to climate change.
