The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, held crucial talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia Soudani during a visit to Baghdad on Monday. This visit is one of a series of activities carried out by Grossi to promote the development of Iraq's peaceful nuclear program, which shows the active support and attention of the international community to Iraq in the field of nuclear energy.

After the talks, Iraqi Education Minister Naim Abdi revealed the core content of the talks to the media. "We had in-depth discussions with Mr. Grossi about a number of nuclear energy projects in Iraq, the most critical of which was the construction of a new nuclear reactor for peaceful purposes," he said. Minister Abdi further explained that Iraq hopes to enhance the country's energy supply capacity and promote sustainable economic and social development through the development of peaceful nuclear energy.

Grossi also expressed strong support for Iraq's peaceful nuclear program during the talks. As interest in nuclear energy grows in the Middle East, Iraq's peaceful nuclear program is an important example, he said. To this end, he revealed that a team of Iraqi experts will visit the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna in the near future to hold a meeting with international experts to discuss in detail and develop a roadmap for Iraq's peaceful nuclear program.

It is worth mentioning that Iraq has a rich historical background in the field of nuclear energy. In the past, Iraq had three nuclear reactors at Tuwasa, its main nuclear research site south of Baghdad, but the facilities were destroyed during the 1981 and 1991 wars. Nevertheless, the Iraqi government has never given up its efforts in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and this cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency has undoubtedly injected new impetus into the recovery and development of Iraq's nuclear energy industry.

Looking ahead, Iraq's peaceful nuclear program is expected to lead to a cleaner and more efficient energy supply for the country, while also setting a new example for regional and global nuclear energy development and cooperation. The IAEA will continue to provide technical support and assistance to Iraq to jointly promote the smooth implementation of this important project. Editor/Xu Shengpeng
