On March 27, 2024, the infrastructure construction project for improving the air traffic control capacity in Lanzhou, Northwest China, officially began. The launch of this important project marks another significant progress in the civil aviation industry in the Northwest China. This project not only carries the important task of promoting the strategy of building a strong civil aviation country, but also is a crucial step in accelerating the construction of a modern air traffic control service network.

As a key project of the 14th Five Year Plan for the Development of Civil Aviation, this project has a total investment of 745 million yuan and a total construction area of approximately 20000 square meters. Its design inspiration comes from Ruyi and Xiangyun, not only reflecting the beautiful symbolism in traditional Chinese culture, but also symbolizing that the project will bring a new look of agility, efficiency, and safety to air traffic control in the northwest region.

The speech by Wang Shigang, the director of the Gansu Air Traffic Control Bureau of Civil Aviation, at the groundbreaking ceremony demonstrated the bureau's high attention and firm determination towards this project. They plan to turn this project into a boutique project, model project, safety project, and integrity project in the civil aviation field, contributing to the promotion of world-class air traffic control construction.

After the completion of the project, it will meet the demand of setting up 23 control sectors and 16 emergency takeover sectors in the Lanzhou control zone by 2030. This will greatly enhance the air traffic control capacity of the Lanzhou area, optimize the airspace structure, improve operational efficiency, and enhance emergency takeover capacity. This will not only contribute to the deep integration of military and civil aviation, but also provide strong support for the development of the Silk Road Economic Belt, especially the political and economic progress of the Longyuan region.

In addition, the project will further optimize the air traffic control service network, improve the quality and level of air traffic services in the northwest region, enhance international competitiveness, and provide safer, more convenient, and comfortable air travel experiences for domestic and foreign passengers.
