Malaysia's Ministry of Energy Transformation and Water Transformation (PETRA) has announced an incentive programme called the People's Solar Incentive Programme (SolaRIS) to encourage residential energy consumers to adopt solar energy. The scheme is open to all Malaysian citizens with a National Energy Berhad (TNB) account as well as citizens applying for the NEM programme for the first time.
The SolaRIS programme is based on the Net Energy Metering Scheme (NEM), where the government will provide cash subsidies of RM1,000 to RM4,000 (US $211 to US $843)/kWAC to those who submit applications to the Malaysian Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) to install solar systems on and after April 1, 2024. PETRA approved a 350MW quota for the NEMRakyat scheme, with the submission window for applications for subsidies open from April 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024 (or until the quota is exhausted) and the solar system required to be commissioned by March 31, 2025.
DatukSeriFadillahYusof, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia and head of PETRA, said: "With this resolution, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transition (PETRA) is confident that SolaRIS can attract more domestic users to participate and enjoy the benefits of installing solar systems in their homes, further contributing to the aspirations of the energy transition and the country's goal of carbon neutrality by 2050."
