Recently, the main canal of the Yellow River Sanshengong Water Conservancy Project in Bayannur City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region officially opened its gates to release water, marking the full launch of the summer irrigation work in the Hetao Irrigation District in 2024. In 2024, the summer irrigation work in the Hetao Irrigation District has attracted much attention. It is expected that the available water consumption will reach 1.955 billion cubic meters, and the planned irrigation area is 10.44 million acres. It is planned to successfully complete the summer irrigation task before the end of June.
In order to ensure the smooth progress of summer irrigation work, the relevant water conservancy departments of Bayannur City actively strengthened coordination and consultation, vigorously promoted the water-saving experience accumulated over the years, and aimed to improve the efficiency of field water use. Before opening the gates to release water, the water conservancy department has comprehensively inspected and maintained all water supply and drainage projects, including timely repairs of water damage projects and annual maintenance projects, to ensure that water is released and diverted as planned to avoid the occurrence of water and other local phenomena. At the same time, thorough dredging and renovation of branch canals and following channels that affect water flow were carried out to improve field water diversion conditions and ensure smooth water flow.
In addition, the water conservancy department also actively coordinates the water demand between the upstream and downstream, left and right banks, and high and low canals, and implements shallow watering and fast-wheel irrigation methods to properly solve the problem of water supply sequence between soil replenishment and young crops. Centralized water supply not only improves water supply efficiency, but also effectively maintains water order and ensures that every drop of water can be fully utilized.
At present, various water diversion hubs, canal systems and other projects in the Hetao Irrigation District are operating well, and management work is carried out in an orderly manner. The water conservancy department will continue to strengthen monitoring and dispatching to ensure the successful completion of summer irrigation work and provide a strong guarantee for agricultural production in the Hetao Irrigation Area. This initiative will not only help improve agricultural production efficiency, but also make a positive contribution to the sustainable development and ecological environment protection of the region.Editor/Cheng Liting
