Alinta Energy and JERA Nex's subsidiary Parkwind have agreed to work together to jointly develop the 1+GW Spinifex offshore wind farm in the Southern Ocean Regional Declaration Area, southwest of Victoria, Australia. Under the agreement, the two companies will combine their respective expertise and capabilities to jointly advance the development of the Spinifex project.

Jeff Dimery, Managing Director and CEO of Alinta Energy, praised the partnership, noting that JERA and Parkwind have a strong track record in the offshore wind sector and have impressive engineering and construction skills. He believes the creation of JERA Nex brings together the renewable energy expertise of the two companies to provide strong support for Australia's emerging industry.

Dimery also highlighted another important reason for partnering with JERA Nex - their shared vision to ensure the project benefits the community in South West Victoria.

The parties have now identified the project site and will continue to work closely with local stakeholders to refine the project proposal and drive its progress.

A local supply chain and industry development study completed in 2023 estimates that the project is expected to contribute up to $1.6 billion to the regional economy during construction and $40 million per year during operation.

Francois Van Leeuw, JERA Nex's Vice President of Offshore Development and Construction, also said that Australia's offshore wind potential is huge and they believe that by combining Alinta Energy's local expertise and experience with JERA Nex's offshore credentials, the project will have a solid foundation. He looks forward to working closely with local communities to deliver clean, sustainable energy to Australian homes and businesses.

JERA Nex owns and operates seven wind farms worldwide in Belgium, Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan and Taiwan, and holds a significant global project pipeline. The cooperation will undoubtedly further boost its development in the global renewable energy sector. Editor/Xu Shengpeng
