Oman's "Viewpoint" reported on April 29 that Oman Hydrogen Energy company "Hydrom" recently made significant progress, successfully completed the second round of green hydrogen project land tender, and officially signed the development agreement and land use rights for two important projects located in Dhofar province. This feat marks a solid step forward for Oman in the field of clean energy and sustainable development.

It is reported that the total investment of the two projects is up to 11 billion US dollars, and the total land area reaches 682 square kilometers. Such a huge investment scale and land resource investment undoubtedly provides a strong support for the development of Oman's green hydrogen industry. So far, Oman has signed a total of eight green hydrogen development projects with a total investment of $49 billion. The implementation of these projects is expected to bring Oman's total green hydrogen production capacity to a staggering 1.38 million tonnes per year by 2030.

In the second round of bidding, the first project agreement was awarded to a consortium of internationally renowned companies, including EDF and its subsidiary EDF Renewable Energy, the Electric Power Company of Japan (GPower) and Yamna Limited. With its extensive experience and advanced technology in the field of clean energy, the consortium plans to use about 4.5 GW of wind and solar energy to produce about 178,000 tons of green hydrogen per year. The green hydrogen will mainly be used to supply the green ammonia plant with an annual capacity of 1 million tons to be built in the Salara Free Zone to meet the growing market demand for clean energy products.

The second project agreement was awarded to ACTS Investments and Fortescue, an integrated global green energy, mining and technology company. This joint project will make full use of the abundant resources and favorable conditions of Dhofar Province, develop and use about 4.5 GW of wind and solar energy, and produce about 200,000 tons of green hydrogen per year. These green hydrogen products will be sold locally or converted into derivative products such as green ammonia and exported to the international market through the port of Salala, injecting new vitality into Oman's economic development.

The successful signing of these two projects will not only promote the rapid development of Oman's green hydrogen industry, but also contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and addressing global challenges such as climate change. At the same time, it will also promote cooperation and exchanges between Oman and other countries in the field of clean energy, and jointly promote the development and application of global clean energy technology. With the gradual advancement and implementation of these projects, Oman's position and influence in the field of clean energy will be further enhanced. Editor/Xu Shengpeng
