Recently, US-based software giant Microsoft signed a landmark agreement with Brookfield Asset Management, a leading global infrastructure investment company, and its renewable energy subsidiary Brookfield Renewable Partners. Under the agreement, Microsoft will invest $10 billion to acquire more than 10.5 gigawatts of new renewable energy capacity. This massive investment will help Microsoft achieve comprehensive decarbonization of its operations amid growing demand for artificial intelligence and cloud services.

Brookfield stated that the scale of the agreement signed with Microsoft is almost eight times the largest single enterprise power purchase agreement in history. This cooperation not only marks the in-depth cooperation between the two companies in the field of renewable energy, but also reflects the great importance global enterprises attach to green and sustainable development strategies.

The five-year agreement will gradually build 10.5 GW of renewable energy capacity between 2026 and 2030. The new capacity will be primarily located in the United States and Europe, but the agreement also includes the potential for future expansion into regions such as Asia Pacific, India and Latin America.

Brookfield said in a press release: "With global digitalization trends and widespread adoption of artificial intelligence, power demand continues to grow. We are pleased to partner with Microsoft to support their customer needs and promote the development of renewable energy."

Microsoft has been actively committed to achieving the sustainability goals. The company has committed that by 2030, 100% of its electricity consumption will come from zero-carbon energy procurement. This cooperation with Brookfield will further accelerate Microsoft’s pace on the road to decarbonization.

It is reported that the construction of new production capacity will not only focus on traditional renewable energy sources such as wind energy and solar energy, but will also actively explore and adopt new and influential carbon-free energy power generation technologies. This will help promote the transformation and upgrading of the global energy structure and promote the widespread application of clean energy.

Brookfield Asset Management Ltd. is one of the world's largest infrastructure investment companies, with more than $900 billion in assets under management. Its renewable energy subsidiary Brookfield Renewable Partners owns nearly 33 gigawatts of hydro, wind, solar and distributed energy and storage facilities in North America, South America, Europe and Asia. This cooperation with Microsoft will further strengthen Brookfield's leading position in the global renewable energy field.Editor/Zhao E
