Mitsui Petroleum Exploration Company Limited (MOECO) and its commercial partners have announced that they have made a final investment decision for the Block B project in Vietnam. This is not only an ambitious business decision, but also a positive response to the global clean energy trend. The Block B project is an integrated development that will have a profound impact far beyond simple energy supply.

MOECO, the petroleum exploration subsidiary of Mitsui & Co., LTD., has been known for its expertise in natural gas exploration since its inception. Its business is located in Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia, and it has accumulated rich regional experience and network resources. MOECO has high hopes for the Block B project, which is expected to have a production capacity of approximately 490 million cubic feet per day, and plans to officially start production by the end of 2026.

The core of the Block B project is not just the development of upstream gas fields. As an integrated development project, it also includes the development of midstream gas transportation. This link will ensure that the gas extracted from the field can be efficiently and safely transported to the gas-fired thermal power plant, providing stable energy support for the entire project. For MOECO, the midstream development of the B Block project will become its "next generation core business", which will bring long-term stable earnings for the company.

In the context of the energy transition, MOECO hopes to contribute to the supply of clean energy in Southeast Asia through the B Block project. By developing the Block B project, MOECO will provide an adequate supply of natural gas fuel to support the power generation of gas-fired thermal power plants.
