On the morning of May 6, 2024, after a strict 168-hour trial operation, Unit 2 of Chuzhou Natural gas Peaking Power Plant of Huaihe Energy Holding Group Power Group successfully reached the standard and officially entered the commercial operation stage, beginning to contribute to the power supply.

The Chuzhou natural gas Peak-trimming Power Plant project is a key project in the 14th Five-Year Plan of Anhui Province, which has created many milestones in Anhui province. This is the first natural gas peaking power plant project in Anhui province to obtain the project code and be approved, and it is also the first natural gas peaking power plant project to start construction and smoothly put into operation. With a total investment of 2.367 billion yuan, the project aims to build two gas-steam combined cycle peaking units with a power of 450MW. It is worth mentioning that Unit 1 of them has been successfully commissioned and started operations in early 2024.

The Chuzhou natural gas peaking power plant is expected to consume about 600 million cubic meters of natural gas per year and generate up to 3.15 billion KWH of annual power generation after the successful implementation of the two-unit operation. Compared with coal-fired units of the same size, the project can significantly reduce the consumption of standard coal by about 236,000 tons per year and significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.03 million tons. This achievement not only contributes to the realization of power and natural gas peak balancing, but also has achieved remarkable results in energy saving and carbon reduction.

For Anhui Province, the implementation of this project has a positive effect on optimizing the energy structure and improving the reliability of the power system, and also vigorously promotes the practice of the dual-carbon target, injecting new impetus into the green development. In addition, for Huaihe Energy Holding Group, the successful operation of this project not only accelerated the pace of development of the power industry, but also provided a strong support for creating a national new clean energy base and transformation and upgrading demonstration enterprises.
