On May 28, 2024, the expansion and renovation project of the Jiamusi Tongjiang Railway in Heilongjiang Province officially began, marking the construction phase of the expansion project of the rear channel of the Tongjiang Railway Port of the China Europe freight train eastern channel.

According to Zhang Yuming, the commander of the Jiamusi Construction Command of China Railway Harbin Group Co., Ltd., the expansion and renovation project of the Jiamusi to Tongjiang Railway starts from Dongjiamusi Station in Jiamusi City in the west and ends at Tongjiang North Station at the China Russia Border Railway Port Station. It is a mainline railway that mainly focuses on freight transportation and also considers passenger transportation. The total length of the renovated line is 258.25 kilometers, with a total construction period of 3 years.

After the renovation, the Jiamusi to Tongjiang Railway will open 7 additional passing stations, strengthen some passenger and freight facilities at the stations, expand the container operation area and loading capacity of Tongjiang North Station, and increase the passing capacity of trains by three times. The transportation capacity of bulk commodities such as coal and iron ore at the port will also be further enhanced.
