Since 2019, Deutsche Bahn has begun comprehensive renovation work on important lines in stages. Deutsche Bahn and its commissioned construction company team have jointly completed the thorough renewal of 557 kilometers of track, 700,000 sleepers and 235 turnouts. In addition, experts have successfully repaired the superstructures of 49 bridges and 63 tunnels. By 2024, the Rauheberg Tunnel will also receive additional underground reinforcement work to ensure its structural stability.
The track between Kassel and Fulda completed the finishing touches from May 26 to June 7, 2024. Philipp Nagl, CEO of DB InfraGO AG, said that after long-term efforts, trains can now run continuously on the 327-kilometer high-speed railway line between Hannover and Würzburg. This achievement marks a major step towards Germany's strong railway network, with up to 850 million euros invested in the line over five years.
During the construction period, DB's construction team not only renovated the entire line, but also completed the renovation of part of the Rauheberg Tunnel. This not only improved the reliability of passenger and freight transportation on this section of the line, but also enhanced the stability of the entire network. In order to ensure the smooth progress of the construction work, the relevant high-speed railway section was closed to trains during the construction period, which enabled the construction team to work efficiently around the clock and use large-scale special machinery including high-speed conversion trains.
During the construction period, DB provided passengers with a variety of diversions and alternative routes, and coordinated with railway companies and associations in advance to minimize the impact on passenger travel. This renovation project demonstrates Deutsche Bahn's firm commitment to improving service quality and strengthening infrastructure.Editor/Cheng Ting
