Recently, Sany Offshore, a subsidiary of China’s Sany Heavy Industry, and Saudi Global Ports (SGP), a joint venture between PSA International and local partners, signed a landmark agreement to promote sustainable development and strategic cooperation in Saudi Arabia’s ports. SGP purchased 80 electric container trucks from Sany Offshore, the world’s largest single order of electric container trucks.
The signing ceremony was attended by Saudi Deputy Minister of Transport Mr. Rayan AlBakri, SGP CEO Edward Tah, Sany Offshore Chairman Fu Weizhong, and Overseas Marketing Company General Manager Tang Weibin. The event highlights its commitment to promoting sustainable growth in the port industry.
SGP is a joint venture between PSA, Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Al Blagha Group, which aims to accelerate the low-carbon development and modern operations of PSA’s ports. Sany Offshore’s electric container trucks will contribute to the fight against climate change, in line with the sustainable development goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
The partnership is part of Saudi Arabia's strategy to build a global logistics hub connecting three continents. SGP was named Port of the Year at the 2024 ShipTek Awards and will own the largest electric fleet in the Middle East upon completion of the deal.
Sany's electric trucks will play a vital role in port operations, protecting the environment by reducing air and greenhouse gas emissions through zero-emission technology, while improving energy efficiency and saving operating and maintenance costs.
Omar Hariri, Chairman of the Saudi Ports Authority, was delighted and said: This contract will help the development and modernization of the port and help it become a flexible and sustainable logistics center.
Earlier this year, Sany Heavy Industry delivered 50 dump trucks to Saudi Arabia, which, together with more than 1,700 Sany equipment deployed at the NEOM construction site, will make an important contribution to the development of the region.
SGP has been working with Sany Offshore Engineering, a subsidiary of Sany Heavy Industry, since 2013 and has currently delivered about 50 mobile port equipment and 6 rubber tire gantry cranes (RTGs).Editor/Li Chunwen
