Sherek Wind Power Project, as the first new energy benchmark project invested by Powerchina Group in Central Asia, not only demonstrates the deep cooperation between China and Kazakhstan under the the Belt and Road Initiative, but also is an important practice for Powerchina to actively respond to the global dual carbon goals and promote green energy development. The project is located in the Enbekshi Kazakh District of Almaty Oblast in southeastern Kazakhstan, with a superior geographical location, about 150 kilometers away from the largest city of Almaty in Kazakhstan, providing convenient conditions for the project's power transmission and operation management.
The project is jointly invested and constructed by China Electric Power Construction Group's Electric Power Construction Investment Corporation and Electric Power Construction Chengdu Institute, and has partnered with Kazakhstan's Samluk Energy Company. As one of Kazakhstan's largest vertically integrated power and utility companies, Samluk Energy's participation not only brings rich industry experience and resources to the project, but also further enhances its stability and sustainability.
The Sherek wind power project has installed a total of 24 wind turbines, with a total installed capacity of 60 megawatts. After being put into operation, this scale of wind farm can generate approximately 230 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually, which is equivalent to providing stable and reliable electricity supply to the southern region of Kazakhstan, effectively alleviating the long-standing power shortage problem in the region. Meanwhile, compared to traditional coal-fired power generation, the Sherek wind power project can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 160000 tons per year, making a positive contribution to Kazakhstan's renewable energy development goals and helping its government achieve its carbon reduction goals.
During the project construction process, China Electric Power Construction fully utilized its professional advantages and technical strength in the field of new energy. As the EPC general contracting unit of the project, Electric Power Construction Chengdu Institute has ensured the smooth progress and high-quality completion of the project with its rich engineering experience and excellent technical capabilities. At the same time, as the main investor of the project, Electric Power Construction Offshore Investment Company has scientifically formulated production and operation strategies, optimized production management processes, adhered to the concept of "making good use of every gust of wind", focused on improving the utilization rate of wind resources, and achieved both economic and social benefits of the project. Keywords: the Belt and Road news, the Belt and Road project, overseas project.
In addition, the Sherek wind power project also emphasizes harmonious coexistence with the local community. During the project construction process, China Electric Power Construction actively fulfilled its social responsibility, paid attention to the development needs of the local community, and promoted the prosperity of the local economy and social stability by providing employment opportunities and conducting public welfare activities. This measure has not only won high recognition and praise from the local government and people, but also set a good example for the cooperation between China and Kazakhstan in the field of new energy.
